March 2008 was the date of the last post and GGRFC was riding high in Div 3SE. Necky and Bute were coaching, Brighty was fighting for scrum half with Fryer and anyone who went training was having a go at playing 10.
Have things have changed much in the past 2 years ?
Well Feb 2010 see's GGRFC top of Division 2E and playing some good rugby. Bute has been replaced by his big brother, Digger has captured the 9 jersey and Wally's back at 10.
Nice to see some things remain constant. ie. Baker's handling and the 200 Hoodies still to be sold that Necky bought. ;O)
We've played some great football this year to get us to the top of the table, BUT !!, and it's a big but, the teams we've lost against. Sarries, Llan and twice to that place near Pyle. Is it over confidence, do we expect to win against poor opposition ? Is it reliance on key players ?
The coaching staff can only work with whoever turns up training. It's a long season with much rugby to play in a difficult league. The boys who turn up week in week out deserve a medal. I'm sure we got over 50 players on the books but less than half turn up for training.
With plenty of rugby still to be played this season and the real possibility of promotion let's hope that the remainder of the season can be as productive as the first.
