In the many years I have been playing and watching rugby I have travelled to many rugby clubs far and wide. With some notable exceptions there always seems to be more Wool involved with the opposition.. Be it lady physios, bar staff or just supporters they nearly always have some lovely eye candy. Us in Gilfach, Niets, Nichts, Nulla , Nada, nothing.
I’m all for a woman knowing her place and staying in cooking, cleaning and minding the kids. But every now and then they should spend a couple of hours sorting themselves out, put on some slap and their Primark best and spend some time looking gorgeous.
Anyway, the rugby, the end of the season is fast approaching and we find ourselves in contention for promotion. The last couple of games I’ve watched, Heol-Y-Cyw and Penarth, have made me less confident in our prospects. Is it the disruption of the 6 Nations or over confidence that has caused us to play so poorly? Granted we are still winning and as they say if you can still win when playing badly then don’t worry too much. But I would like to see a marked improvement if we still want to be in the mix come the end of April.
Bedlinog are top and two points ahead of us with two games in hand. This may look good for them but they have to play us twice, and looking at the fixture list they have a busy end of season catching up on their league fixtures and they’re in the Silver Ball playoffs. So hopefully this may take its toll and they will start dropping points. The other contenders Tylorstown are close on our heels but have played a game more than us. How costly could that loss up there prove to be?
Anyway best of luck to Wales Saturday, I’m sure we can beat France. With the disruption of the 6 Nations out of the way let’s hope we can knuckle down to some hard work and have a very productive end to the season.

Wales for the Grand Slam !!!
So it’s Wales against the Italians tomorrow for week 3 of the 6 Nations championship. I must admit I don’t go along with all the hype surrounding the national side at the moment. Fair play we’ve won two out of two but I think we have played well below the standard required to be a major force at international level. England proved they can’t play for 80 minutes and Scotland…well I think Ton might have a chance of beating them. But if we can still win by not playing well, then that’s a bonus.
It’s a bit like the firsts at the moment some flashes of brilliance last week against Fairwater followed by some woeful defending and crazy decision making. Why is it necessary to run the ball from all positions of the field when we are just one score in front? Let’s secure the win before we go chasing bonus points and champagne rugby.
Any way, like I said some good play last week, but plenty of areas to work on. Our lineout is still very fragile, we have limited options and when Baker was carried off after bending a finger nail or something it was all hands to pumps to get Trigger off the ground. It was nice to see Baker with his clothes on, don’t think I’ll be having a Chinese from across the road for a while though.
Here’s my predictions for tomorrows matches Wales to win, England to win and the Porridge Gobblers will get it right and turn the Bog Trotters over.
